Whilst our founding themes are Gothic, Horror, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, this list is neither exclusive nor exhaustive.  We welcome contributions from a huge spectrum of genre work.  For more details please view our list of example Genres Embraced by ‘42’.

We are always on the lookout for new contributors and are currently gathering names of performers ready for when we launch ‘42 NUL’.  So if you are a writer, poet, musician, performance artist, actor or comedian and you have an interest in these genres, please get in touch.  You can contact the  42 NUL Team either by e-mail at
42nul@42openmicnight.co.uk  or via their Facebook Page

If you would like your work to be performed at ‘42’ but do not feel confident yet to do so yourself, don’t worry.  We can arrange for a local writer to read it out on your behalf.  We can also offer this assistance for contributors who are unable to attend the event itself.  Let your voice be heard!

We are also looking for additional members to join our team, so if you would like to become involved in bringing ‘42’ to the Borough, please contact us.

So if you live in Newcastle-under-Lyme, are studying in the area, or are visiting and fancy a night out with a difference, join us for an evening of dark and fantastical entertainment showcasing local talent.
Following the great success of the ‘42 Open Mic Night’ in Worcester, there has been a lot of enthusiastic support for similar events in other cities.  Work is underway to establish these evenings.

North Staffordshire will see two ‘42’ events being established in the county, with ‘42 NUL’ (Newcastle-Under-Lyme) and ‘42 Stoke’ (Stoke-On-Trent).

Newcastle-Under-Lyme is a celebrated individual Borough within Staffordshire, with a thriving artistic community, especially in the Performing Arts.  The Borough is a huge Market Town whose roots stretch way back in English History, and which still has many beautiful remnants of the Lyme Forests which once gave the town part of its name. It also has the kind of legends and folklore which are a gift to an imaginative writer, particularly the legend of the Newcastle werewolf, which dates back to the 12th Century, and which is proving the basis of the first serial for ‘42 NUL’ being written by co-founder Glenn James at the moment.  Newcastle has some bewitchingly beautiful areas which speak of a mysterious past, and the Borough is a fertile soil for writers.

Angela James, Co-Founder of ‘42’, attended the old Newcastle College, and grew to know the area well in her teenage years.  It was this affection for the area which caused the family to consider Newcastle as a place to settle when they decided to relocate to Staffordshire.  They are busily putting down roots, and have found the area so inspirational that they are working on starting a ‘42’ open mic evening for the Borough.

Glenn and Angela have quickly formed such an affection for Newcastle that it feels like they have lived here for years.  They want to become involved in the artistic endeavours of the community, and aim to start the Newcastle ’42’ open mic evenings to provide genre performer and writers with an opportunity to find their voice, and their audience.
